Why I chose the Avatar: The Last Airbender History topic:
I chose to blog and study about this topic because a lot of people today don't realize that, while the animators of the show created an entirely fictional universe, they also based several aspects of the show on real life cultures. I wanted to bring those cultures and connections to light to show people another reason why I personally loved the show growing up. Plus the show also made the connections to a lot of Asian cultures that most people generally don't know or learn about. A little bit about the show: Aang is a 12 year old boy who's destined to be the Avatar for the four nations. The nations consist of the fire nation, the earth nation, the air nation, and the water nation. Each nation has a very different culture. The air nation is comprised of monks living on top of remote mountains, the water nation has two different tribes living in both the north and the south pole, the fire nation is an island based, empire nation, and the earth nation is basically a giant continent all in itself. Considering the fact that I'm going to be writing these posts about the different nations and heir cultures I left out a lot of other information about the show, but I may slip in some other information about the characters and the cultures as this progresses.
